Exam domains

Covered in the same proportions as the exam

Microsoft publishes how much of AZ-104 each domain is worth. Every quiz, mock and readiness score in AZPrep is weighted to match, so a strong week in Storage never hides a weak one in Networking.

Prerequisites & fundamentals

Not examined directly, but assumed throughout. Resource groups, the Azure hierarchy, regions and pairs, and the portal itself. Skip it if you already administer Azure day to day — the dashboard will tell you if you shouldn't have.

Start with the basics

The Azure hierarchy

Tenants, management groups, subscriptions, resource groups.

Regions and region pairs

Geographies, availability zones, paired-region behaviour.

Resource Manager

ARM templates, deployment scopes, tags and locks.

Portal, CLI and PowerShell

Which tool the exam expects for which task.

Shared responsibility

What Microsoft secures, what you secure, and where the line moves.

Cost and billing basics

Budgets, cost alerts, and how pricing turns up in exam questions.

Study tools

Eight ways to study. One score to watch.

Flashcards when you have four minutes, a full timed mock when you have ninety. Everything feeds the same readiness number, so progress is never just a feeling.

The readiness test takes about an hour and costs nothing. It's weighted exactly like the real paper, so the score you get is the score you'd be walking into the test centre with. Most people are surprised by which domain lets them down.

How scoring works

Three inputs, one honest number

Coverage

What you've actually seen

How many of the 106 topics you've worked through, weighted by how much of the exam each domain is worth. Reading a topic once counts for less than answering questions on it.

Accuracy

How you did, recently

Your hit rate per domain, with newer answers counting more than old ones. Get a topic wrong twice and it moves up the queue automatically.

Retention

Whether it stuck

Topics you haven't revisited decay over time, the same way your memory does. That's why the score can go down during a quiet week — because your real readiness did too.

Work backwards from your exam date

Tell the dashboard when you're sitting AZ-104 and it sets the pace: topics per day, questions per session, and which domain has to come first. Change the date and everything re-scales.
